Minuteman Procedure

The Minuteman® is a minimally invasive, interspinous-interlaminar fusion device intended for the stabilization and fusion of the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine. The Minuteman® is designed for attachment to the posterior non-cervical spine at the spinous processes through its bilateral fixation plates, and it is intended for use with bone graft material placed within the device. It provides immobilization, stabilization, and fusion of the spinal segments. The core threaded post allows for optimal placement and a wide range of sizes allows for enhanced anatomical fit. The Minuteman® is delivered sterile and individually packed.

Features & Benefits

Full Control Over Implant Wings
Allows the user to deploy and retract the wings intraoperatively

Single Piece Implant Body
Minimizes device profile without the need to remove a portion of the threaded body

60° Wing Angle
Designed to provide improved biomechanical stability in response to axial rotation and lateral bending loading

Hydroxyapatite Coated Fixation Hex Nut
A substance that helps promote bone on-growth and fusion. Maximizes bone-implant contact area to promote stability and fusion.

Safer Zone
Lateral MIS approach is above the facet joints, avoiding the neural and vascular structures

Minimally Invasive
Alternative to traditional pedicle screws and other spinous process plates

Lateral MIS Approach
Eliminates the dissection of the healthy tissue (neural monitoring is not required)

Ligament Preservation
Of the supraspinous ligament helps maintain stabilization of the spine

Large Graft Window
Allows easy placement of bone graft material to facilitate a posterior fusion

Threaded Body
Allows the implant to thread between the spinous processes in a controlled fashion

5 Anatomical Sizes
(8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 16mm) to accommodate variations in patient anatomy

Sterile Packed
Promotes patient safety and compliance at hospitals

MRI Safe
The Minuteman G5 implant is considered MR Conditional (safe). A patient may be safely scanned under very specific conditions, which may be found by visiting the MRI Safety.

Indications for Use

The Minuteman® G5 MIS Fusion Plate is a posterior, non-pedicle fusion device, intended for use at a single level in the non-cervical spine (T1-S1). It is intended for plate fixation/attachment to spinous processes for the purpose of achieving fusion in the following conditions:

* Lumbar spinal stenosis;
* degenerative disc disease (DDD) (defined as back pain of discogenic origin with degeneration of the disc confirmed by history and radiographic studies); and/or
* spondylolisthesis

The Minuteman® G5 MIS Fusion Plate is intended for use with bone graft material. The device may be implanted via a minimally invasive lateral approach (L1-S1) or a minimally invasive posterior approach (T1-S1).

Minuteman Post Operative Care

Post Operative Restrictions

  • For 4 weeks, limit bending, lifting, twisting and strenuous activity including:
  • Avoid lifting over 10 lbs.
  • No strenuous activity such as swimming, running, jogging, golfing, tennis, other recreational sports, or sexual activity.
  • Increase light activity, such as walking as tolerated, which can be started on day 3 after your surgery
  • A Back brace will be prescribed to use when you are up and doing things. It is not needed for sitting, laying, nor sleeping. This is to be used for the first month.

Surgical Site Care

  • Avoid scrubbing the surgical site for 3 days
  • Do not take baths or submerge the surgical site for 7 days. Shower and light washing is ok starting the morning after surgery with the dressing removed.
  • Redness, bleeding, and/or swelling I something to let our office know at 734-547-4850.
